Client: Womp TV
Project: BASE ep.05
Description: Womp TV approached me about an ambition of theirs to develop their own original web series. The premise for the show was a sit down studio interview show with American Bass Music producers to discuss the influential roots of their music. I worked closely with them during the creative process and worked out the logistics of production. I created the title package, color tone, and logo for the show.
I wanted the show’s title to reflect music production but, I did not have access to a music studio. I got my hands on a synthesizer with various trigger pads, knobs, set it up on a lazy susan and filmes macro close ups while it rotated. I edited together a montage of the clips, color corrected the footage, and add glitch effects to the music. I created a 3D animation of the logotype and added it the the montage. The package was lacking unity so, I created an element out of the logo animation in which I used for the Lower 3rd and credits. This unifies the show from beginning to end. In addition to the graphics I also handled all the video production as well. I Set up the set with all the lights, camera, and microphone.
W
hile I was visiting family in my home city of San Francisco I was able to be productive and shoot a few interviews and one of those interviews was Antiserum. Being a one man team on location is a hard move to pull off so I called in some back up, Ian Grimes, to help out on the shoots and be my sound man. The two of us got up early in the morning gathered our gear and drove over the the other side of SF to Hunters Point aka HP to meet up with Antiserum at his home studio. Now for those of you who are not familiar with San Francisco HP is notorious for being the worst neighborhood in SF.
I like music you can remember…
Ian and I roll up to a newly constructed loft complex literally on the edge of the city with water on one side and housing projects on the other. The neighborhood was a little sketch but, the shoot must go on. I call Antiserum to let him know we have arrived, he opens what looks like to be the entrance to a store front, and we entered. We head upstairs to a huge open floor plan bathed in sunlight, set down our gear, and scope out the best location in the room to shoot. AS we unpack he asked us if we smoke and we whipped out a perfectly rolled cone by Ian. We blaze it up and get acquainted with each other as we unpack. After all of the equipment was set up we dialed in the camera settings, sound checked, and we were ready to roll.
